BLACK WHITE AND BOLD

All the UCD texties, faculty and their friends came out Thursday night to celebrate the TXC and FPS graduating seniors. This year's theme was "Black White and BOLD." The night was full of games, food, prizes and a lot of laughs.

For those of you who missed the biggest TXC event of the year, here's a photo recap of what happened.

Congratulations to all of the graduating TXC and FPS majors!

MET BALL

The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum held their famous Met Ball last night with hundreds of models, celebrities and designers in tow. This event allowed showcased hundreds of  creative and glamorous looks for those who really care about fashion. It was even deemed the Oscars of the east coast (but better) for their remarkable ball gowns. The ball was dedicated to none other than the late great Alexander McQueen.

Here is a quick recap of the best looks of the night:

CATWALK

Christy Turlington was one of the biggest supermodels in the 90's so what's better than to be able follow her around during the 1993 Spring fashion week? The documentary, Catwalk, shadows Christy's journey through Paris, Milan and New York with BFFs model Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. With special guest appearances by Karl Lagerfeld, Versace, Armani, Galliano, Gaultier, and Isaac Mizrahi, this movie is a must see and definitely one of my favorites.

Plus, who doesn't want to see Naomi Campbell order a bucket of fried chicken and Kate Moss talk about nipple piercings and skinny dipping?

And lucky for you, it's on YouTube!

TRASHY OR SEXY?

Cosmopolitan just deemed ripped tights in their "trashy" in the trashy vs. sexy column but I beg to differ! Ripped tights (and clothing) has forever been a staple in the grungy, rock and roll look and I believe it takes an outfit to the next level.

Disagree with me? Take a peek at what Alexander Wang and Balmain have to show about that:

Raquel Allegra also came out with a line in 2008 featuring a shredded shirts and tunics!

GOODBYE, CHRISTOPHE DECARNIN

It was announced earlier this month that Balmain will be ending its 5 year collaboration with head designer Christophe Decarnin. His punk rock, grunge, and edgy style filled with embellishments and a ton of strong shoulders made a huge statement in the fashion world. He undoubtedly increased popularity and awareness of the brand with his exquisite beading and intricate designs so his leave was a total surprise to all.
It is speculated that he is enrolled in a mental hospital but it's like they say... there is a fine line between genius and insanity

Here a few pictures of some of his pieces through out his years at Balmain:
