BRIDAL LINE: IVY & ASTER

Let's face it. Almost every girl has dreamed about her future wedding, I know I have. I'm a bit ashamed to say I've devoted hours to planning out my special day, including the location, color scheme, centerpieces, and bouquet. But the true star of the event, the dress, has always been kind of fuzzy in my mind. That is until now. I've always known I wanted something simple, but extremely elegant, with a trumpet or bell silhouette, and a short train. No floral appliques or bows, no gaudy rhinestones, no ruching, and definitely no strapless dresses (don't get me wrong, I love strapless dresses, but they're just not for me).

I came across Ivy & Aster, a recently launched bridal line that creates gorgeous, ethereal wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses. Created by two best friends (Ivy and Aster) from Atlanta, their dresses are now selling in bridal boutiques across the country. I've happily decided that my future wedding dress will be the one on the left (below) or one very similar to it. Now all I need is a groom!

Here are some more pictures from their dreamy collection.

JEWELRY DISPLAYS

Whenever I come across images of someone's home, I immediately go to their jewelry display. Whether their jewelry is sitting on an antique tray or hanging delicately from a mirror or a picture frame, it adds a touch of sparkle and some personality to the space. I love the idea of having baubles out on display- after all, shiny necklaces and colorful rings are practically begging to be shown off, even if they're not being worn!

Achieving a "carelessly-strewn-about" and piled-on display look for your jewelry is easy. Anthropologie makes gorgeous bowls that are too pretty to eat from and thus perfect for putting jewelry in. I recently purchased this tree stand from Urban Outfitters to hang all my necklaces after eyeing it for quite some time, and I love it. Mannequin dress forms, are also a really chic and interesting way to display accessories (necklaces, brooches, scarves, hats) and cheap ones, like this one, are easy to find.

ALAMEDA POINT ANTIQUES FAIRE

This past Sunday, I had the pleasure of attending my first antiques fair. It was a bright and sunny day, with temperatures reaching the high 70s, perfect for an afternoon strolling through a large naval base and scouring for one-of-a-kind vintage finds. The items ranged from typical costume jewelry and antique furniture to more unusual samurai swords and life-sized porcelain dolls. While I wasn't on the lookout for anything specific, there were a plethora of interesting items that caught my attention, some of which I managed to capture on camera. With over 800 booths and a beautiful scenic location in direct view of the Bay Bridge, there's sure to be something for everyone.

    Gently-used Keds:
     Vintage art deco rhinestone necklaces:
     Various brightly-colored baubles:

    Sterling silver rings:
    Vintage slip dresses:
     Antique gold picture frames:
     Antique magnifying glasses:
    Metal scrap letters:
     Hand-painted signs:

The Alameda Point Antiques Faire is held the first Sunday of every month. Admission from 9:00 AM- 2:00 PM is $5, and free from 2:00- 3:00 PM.

PRINTS AND STRIPES: FASHION + INTERIOR DESIGN

Two trends that I've been noticing during my daily peruse of both fashion and interior design blogs are bold prints and black and white stripes.  I'm loving both of them, especially considering their appropriateness for Spring!
Whether it's a tribal print or a geometric pattern, these punchy textiles are bold and add flair to any outfit or interior space. Plus, mixing prints and patterns can look chic as well! The trick to doing this is to stick to a basic color scheme and keep the prints grounded with neutral accessories (or furniture!). Proenza Schouler, known for mixing patterns, serves as a good inspiration for how to do it well, and Madewell makes good patterned pieces that can either be worn alone or with other separates. I can't wait to pair my florals and stripes! Tastefully of course.

Black and white stripes have always been chic. A simple striped shirt is extremely versatile and can serve as a wardrobe staple for countless seasons. Black and white furniture and walls, on the other hand, are a little more complicated to pull off. They're dramatic and loud, serving as the centerpiece of the room or space. Thus all other furniture and textiles should be kept simple and neutral-colored.

UNDER A SPELL

I recently came across Australian fashion label Spell, created by sisters Elizabeth and Isabella Briedis and was immediately enthralled. Abundant use of feathers? Check. Funky turquoise jewelry? Of course. This stuff is right up my alley.
Having been fascinated by the combination of leather, turquoise, and feathers since childhood, Elizabeth and Isabella initially started Spell as a jewelry label, taking inspiration from Native American adornments and selling their wares in a flea market stall. Before long, they branched out into other accessories (handbags, wallets, headbands), shoes, and clothing, never straying from their hippie chic aesthetic. They recently opened their own flagship boutique, Spell- The Gypsy Collective, which carries recycled and vintage items in addition to the Spell label. It's no wonder that their beautifully handcrafted pieces have already been spotted on celebs like Sienna Miller and Isabel Lucas. I'll be anxiously awaiting the label's arrival to the States! In the meantime, check out their amazing collection and lookbook here and their gorgeous blog/inspiration here.

HAIR TREND: INTRICATE BRAIDS

Braids are my go-to when I'm having a bad hair day since they're not only pretty, they're foolproof. While I love my usual simple side fishtail braid or the french-braided-bangs-into-a-ponytail look, these days, it's all about detailed, intricate, creative braids (check out my rainbow braid post from last quarter here). Whether it's a snaking braid, or an undone trail along the lower hairline, a la the always chic Diane Kruger, these styles are not your run-of-the-mill braids. They're attention-grabbing, fresh, and innovative. So the next time you're having a bad hair day or you want to try something new, weave, twist, and tuck your hair into an intricate braid!

A CONVERSATION WITH JEFF STAPLE

Designers rarely get the spotlight because they put their clothes in the forefront. But once in a while, it's good to know your designers, know their thoughts, see their interactions, and understand their concepts.

Jeff Staple is a street wear designer residing in New York. He is the founder/creative director of Staple Design and creative director of Reed Space. Kid you not, he is only 29 years old and is probably on of the most influential designers in the game. His words and intelligence surfaces during his sit down interviews. Be amazed. Watch every part, it's worth it.

    Here's a sneak preview:
