STYLE ICON: BETTY DRAPER OF MAD MEN

Cigarettes, whiskey, JFK, and sex --that's Mad Men in just a few words. One of my favorite television series, Mad Men isn't a critically acclaimed show just because of its awesome storyline with riveting characters and affairs galore, its fashion can solely speak for itself as well. Set in Manhattan of the 1960s, the fashion you can just imagine alone comes to life. Flat presidential pocket square folds to Frank Sinatra-inspired blues and suits to full skirts, petticoats, and Grace Kelly, Mad Men brings back the ultimate vintage/retro-chic.

One of my favorite characters, based on style and wardrobe alone, is Betty Draper. Reminiscent of Grace Kelly, Mad Men's costume designer Janine Bryant has described her as "a character who is trying to create the perfect facade." The show has had huge influences on runways and designers since it first started airing. Most notable among the show's loyal fans is American designer, Michael Kors, who based his fall 2008 collection off of the show and showcased his utmost admiration by requiring all the models to wear name tags reading, "Hello, my name is... Betty".

While the entire cast of Mad Men all have their own personal styles and tastes, here are a few of my Betty favorites. Enjoy!
    Betty Draper (actress January Jones)

THE ROYAL WEDDING: KATE'S DRESS

If anyone stayed up to watch the Royal Wedding this early, early morning, then you saw what everyone was wondering for the last couple months: Kate's wedding dress. Who designed it? Rumors were right on point with Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, being the designer of the wedding dress.

Remember my post a couple months ago, Designers Sketch for Kate? Well, what do you think of Sarah Burton's design? I personally think she looks beautiful and fit for royalty, but a modern one at that, especially because of the v-neck line, and since some had speculated she would tribute to the late Princess Diana's wedding dress (with respect, thank god she didn't though because 3-feet wide puff sleeves are not in anymore!). The dress, a high-waisted, full subtle embroidered skirted silhouette body, with a lace long-sleeve wrap, was very reminiscent of, and Kate's tribute to, Grace Kelly's wedding dress in 1956, when she married the Prince of Monaco. Her train was also about 6-feet long.

With royalty  and celebrity guests, like Elton John and the Beckhams, William and Kate's wedding was watched by billions. Congratulations to the happy couple!

A compare/contrast photo with Grace Kelly on the left, and Kate Middleton on the right. Which do you guys like best?

SPRING TREND: MAXI SKIRTS A COMEBACK

Lately, I've been itching to buy more and more maxi skirts, as much as my budget permits. When I was younger, I honestly hated these long, can't-walk-straight-without-looking-like-my-knees-couldn't-part tight skirts, but now, I started to appreciate this Olson twin-esque trend, and I'm lovin it! As spring is arriving, ever so slowly, with bi-polar weather from sunny and hot to cold and windy, the maxi skirt is the way to go if your outfit permits you to wear a skirt, but it's too cold to show off those sexy limbs.

Maxi skirts can easily be paired off with platform wedge sandals, strappy gladiators, or combat boots. The look can be donned with either an oversized cropped top, form-fitting tank, long cardigan, or a jean jacket. Accessorizing accordingly with cute long necklaces, chunky bangles, and a skinny belt polishes this boho-chic look.

Textured and patterned maxi skirts give that spring vibe, while chiffon or transparent ones give that feminine, but sexy appeal. Maxi skirts may be a hit or miss with you, but it doesn't hurt to give this look a try!

Here are some of my favorite maxi skirt looks:

Besides the awesome line up that included Lauryn Hill, Cold War Kids, Kings of Leon, Sleigh Bells,Wiz Khalifa, and my personal favorites, Duran Duran and Arcade Fire, Coachella brought out the inner bohemian, hippie, and retro selves of some of our favorite celebrities. Take a look!

Vanessa Hudgens in a crocheted halter, acid wash cutoff shorts, and lots of beaded accessories

Lindsay Lohan keeping low-key in an oversized plaid button up, shorts, and cute bandage sandals

Katy Perry looking retro with a matching red gingham top and bottom, and white sunglasses while jamming to Sleigh Bells

Nicole Richie looking her usual bohemian self, wearing a seriously mass printed top with cut-off jean shorts and a cute gold knuckle ring

Dita von Teese wearing an orange palm tree printed tea dress with a braided belt and a white sailor's hat

Diane Kruger looking hippie chic with a beige maxi skirt and fedora, while hubby Joshua Jackson looking casual and simple

Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio donning a cute white summer dress with her hubby on the side

Teresa Palmer in a Missoni tribal-printed dress and a stylish floppy sun hat

Whitney Port in vintage-inspired shades, a lacy white skirt and top, and two buns on her head

Kate Bosworth looking patriotic with her flag muscle tank and white shorts

And lastly, again, Katy Perry in a D&G flower laced dress

FRANCISCO LACHOWSKI IS HOT

Born in 1991, Brazilian, and hot. Model Francisco Lachowski garnered attention in the world of fashion in 2008, when he won the prestigious Ford Model's "Supermodel of the World" contest, launching himself quickly into the limelight. Having worked and modeled with designers and brands, most notably donning the face of "Dior Homme" by Dior in 2009, he's walked for Gucci, Gianfranco Ferre, John Galliano, Kenzo, Philip Lim, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, and many more. He is definitely the next big thing, and I can't wait to see more of him, especially since he will most definitely get hotter and hotter by age. I'll be keeping my eye on you Francisco, yum.

    And some eye candy..

WOULD YOU BUY IT?

It's not a surprise when most designer brand garments cost more than the 1K mark. For instance Proenza Schouler and Chanel handbags are always typically over $1000, as these are considered high-end. But when designers start creating pieces that are widely stapled as low-end and can easily be bought for $10 or less at Walmart, there comes a fine line between fashionably smart and seriously silly.

Here are some of those ridiculously priced items:

Balmain's Slashed army t-shirt, costing $1,625.00. A t-shirt with holes and rips that I can make with my own scissors or fingers --would you buy it? I wouldn't!

Pistol Panties' bathing suit, costing $2,986.00. Yeah it's made of 5,000 Swarovski crystals, but really? You can't even swim in this thing. It looks like a cross between a jockstrap and a bralette, not cute!

Michael Kor's infamous cashmere sweatpants, costing $995.00. It's more fitted and I guess stylish for a pair of sweatpants, but almost $1000?? There's a reason why sweatpants are called sweatpants..

Louis Vuitton's "Raindrop Besace Tote" for $1,960.00. This bag looks, moves, and sounds just like a trash bag. The only difference is the price tag. Oh, and leather straps.

Again, Louis Vuitton's "Tribute Patchwork Bag", costing a whopping $38,000-45,000. This is just plain silly, would anyone really buy this?

Would you buy any of these items?
