BLACK WHITE AND BOLD

All the UCD texties, faculty and their friends came out Thursday night to celebrate the TXC and FPS graduating seniors. This year's theme was "Black White and BOLD." The night was full of games, food, prizes and a lot of laughs.

For those of you who missed the biggest TXC event of the year, here's a photo recap of what happened.

Congratulations to all of the graduating TXC and FPS majors!

THE CLOTHESLINE PROJECT AT UC DAVIS

As I meandered through the quad on the last week of April I came across a small group of students and Joaquin Feliciano, Greek Life Coordinator, hanging numerous t-shirts on a clothesline in between trees. Joaquin informed that the Clothesline Project was a weeklong event put on to raise awareness of violence against women.

Every April (Sexual Assault Awareness Month) the Clothesline Project is organized by the Greek Life Office along with Kappa Alpha Theta, Alpha Epsilon Pi, Kappa Psi Epsilon, Sigma Omega Nu, Alpha Pi Sigma, Sigma Alpha Zeta, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi,& Phi Kappa Psi. During this week, the biggest event they host is “Take Back the Night!”, which is an evening event held to “support the survivors of violence, help those in pain, and assert that it is wrong for people to live in fear of the night or any time of day”.

The shirts hung on the line were decorated by survivors, friends and loved one’s of women that have been abused, or by anyone who wanted to support the cause. Throughout the day people on the quad were welcome to decorate a shirt and hang it on the line.

PICNIC DAY: TIE-DYE

Where can you milk a cow, go through a lazar maze, listen to a battle of marching bands, enter your dog in a doxie derby race, watch a bike parade, fashion show and chemistry magic show all in one day? At the infamous UC Davis Picnic Day! This is the largest student run event in the nation and has been celebrated on campus for over 100 years.

With a fantastic team of student planners, volunteers and faculty, the Division of Textiles and Clothing participated in Picnic Day by successfully running tie-dye tables and selling over 670 t-shirts!

Preparation Day- Students painted posters and prepared the dyes.

Day of the Event- Enthusiastic volunteers advertised the event to people walking along the campus street, helped at the t-shirt stop, assisted customers with rubber-banding and dyeing their shirts, and spent time cleaning up after the event

Special thanks to Samantha Weinmen, Luis Legaspi, Van Nguyen, Joan Chandler, and Andrew Jackura who put extra efforts into making this event such a hit!
